Featuring the voice of the late Kaka Bhaniawala, Lil Amit has been waiting to work on and release this song for a while. With the untimely passing of the great Panjabi singer, Lil Amit held back on it to ensure the timing and the music was just right. Working with renowned Bhangra producer Jeeti, Lil Amit has put his ideas and creativity together to create ‘Nachdi’, an upbeat party number.

As a DJ with West London’s Divine Musiq and presenter on Slough’s Asian Star radio, Lil Amit has built quite the following and demand, as well as a vast knowledge of Bhangra and other genres of music. Inspiring new talent Rajeev B arrives on the scene with an exciting debut single that is sure to create havoc on dancefloors up and down the country! Teaming up with mega lyricist and singer Jelly Manjitpuri, ‘Daroo’ is the first offering from the forthcoming album aptly entitled ‘The Takeover’!

Rajeev Bhardwaj, also known as Rajeev B on the DJ circuit, began his musical journey in his childhood years growing up in West London. As a youngster, Rajeev B practised the art of playing Dholki and would often get into trouble at school and home for tapping away on tables creating beats, mixing one classic song with another.

“Growing up with older siblings, I was exposed to an older generation of music than my own – old school grooves, dub, Soul, Bhangra Classics, you name it! I used to love hearing old & new music from different genres and mashing them up with the biggest Bhangra songs of that time”.

The buzz of entertaining others propelled Rajeev and motivated him to continue his passion, by working with music roadshows on large scale events, weddings and club nights. In 2009, Rajeev expanded his horizons with the introduction of the new Roadshow Kudos Music and is now regarded as one of the leading DJs with the elite entertainment company.

The creation of Kudos Studios, later to be merged with E3UK Records, gave Rajeev a direct route into music production. Utilizing his knowledge of a dancefloor hit track, Rajeev began producing remixes with his most notable remix hit being ‘Chiri Shika’. The track received great interest with many DJ’s around the country regularly playing it within their DJ sets.

Now ready for his biggest challenge, Rajeev’s first original studio album ‘The Takeover’ is set for release on E3UK Records later in 2011. It has been a long time coming to say the least, but Sukhbir Josan is finally set to make his mark with the release of his debut single Valeti Boy. Definitely one of the most exciting prospects to come through this year and an artist to watch out for.

The single features the vocals of Bakshi Billa and lyrics by Harinder Singh. Both very talented artists in their own right. Born and bred in Bedford, Sukhbir had a passion for music since a very young age. He began learning the tabla, a classical Indian instrument from two very well respected teachers. Ustad Aftab Nicholson and Ustad Ranjit Singh Sokhi.

For sure, Sukhbir firmly believes without there guidance this journey may never have evolved. Many artists today believe that the tabla is key in developing ones musical knowledge. This was also quoted to Sukhbir by Hunters, a well respected artist in the industry. Learning the tabla allowed Sukhbir to develop his skills on other percussion instruments such as the Dhol and Dholki which both require similiar notation.

Having developed a sound understanding about percussion, Sukhbir felt he needed to concentrate on melodious instruments such as the tumbi, algozey and sarangi, the later taught by Gurdial Singh Lakhpur Dhadi Jatha. Finally, Ishers one of the most talented vocalists from the UK, taught Sukhbir the scales of the harmonium and how to do riyaz (Vocal training). This combined knowledge of different instruments has given Sukhbir a solid foundation in his musical journey.

Vancouver, BC (Reporter: Manpal Rana) – The Crown Prince of Bhangra, Jazzy B, is currently in his hometown of Vancouver BC this week. Jazzy B is in town shooting a music video for his upcoming album ‘Maharajas’ which is set to release on September 10th 2011 produced by the music man, Sukshinder Shinda and features both Kuldip Manak and Yudhvir Manak.

On Wednesday July 27th, Jazzy B was on location at the prestigious Ginger62 lounge in the heart of downtown Vancouver to shoot a video for his ‘Maharajas’ project under the direction of renowned video director Baljit Deo of Deo Studios who has worked on prestigious projects such as the film Jag Jeondeyan De Mele.

 ust before the shoot on a whim, members from the VIBC society took Jazzy B through a tour of the Bhangra.me exhibition that is taking place at the Museum of Vancouver.

Bhangra.me is an interactive exhibition that links Bhangra music and dance with issues of identity, politics, diaspora and life in Vancouver. Co-produced by Museum of Vancouver and Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration Society, Bhangra.me runs from May 5 – October 23, 2011.

Musical maestro A.R. Rahman has joined forces with rock legend Mick Jagger and other musical heavyweights Joss Stone, Damian Marley and Dave Stewart, to create a band that truly lives up to its name - SuperHeavy!

This diverse and eclectic line up who share eleven Grammy Awards between them, have been recording together in various studios around the world, with the majority of the tracks on the project laid down over three weeks in Los Angeles earlier this year. The album will be unveiled in September and tracks include the first single ‘Miracle Worker’, plus ‘Satyameva Jayanate’, ‘Energy’, ‘Maya,’ and ‘SuperHeavy’ amongst others.

Recorded in LA and with a video that received over half a million hits within 36 hours of release and can be seen here on Chakdey.com below, ‘Miracle Worker’ is a clear indication of the creative vision of this unique collective of world-class musicians.

A distinctive collaboration which perfectly encapsulates each individual’s own talent and style – from the Caribbean inspired reggae beats of Damian Marley, the harmonious soul of Joss Stone, the swagger of Mick Jagger’s vocals, to the Indian-influenced production of A.R. Rahman and Dave Stewart’s solid guitar keeping the song on track, ‘Miracle Worker’ is a true example of the sound of SuperHeavy.

SuperHeavy came together after Jagger and Stewart considered what a band comprising of musicians from different genres would sound like.

Jagger explains, “Dave really wanted to make a record with a different group of musicians, in other words, with different backgrounds of music. Instead of everyone being a rock musician, or basically a blues musician, or some other genre, he wanted to get as many genres together that would fit. I said it sounds like a good idea, I never thought it would actually happen.”

Stunning singer Joss Stone was the first recruit for the then un-named SuperHeavy. Stewart says Stone was, “an obvious choice for us. She’s such an incredible singer and spirit.”

Stewart and Jagger’s dream team took further shape when they were inspired to bring Damian Marley into the mix, says Stewart, “We’d always wanted a Jamaican musician because Mick and I are crazy about Jamaica and Jamaican music.

“We were listening to loads of stuff and suddenly a light bulb went off and we thought about Damian Marley.” Jagger had long been a fan of Marley’s, fresh from another cross-genre collaboration with American rapper Nas, citing his strength as a lyricist and toaster along with his penchant for experimentation and collaborative spirit.

Recording in LA meant the band’s path crossed with legendary Indian composer A.R. Rahman, in the City of Angels fresh from his Slumdog Millionaire Oscar glory. Jagger explains, “We didn’t know what kind of music we’d make, we didn’t know if it would be any good, but we hoped we’d have fun.” They were thrilled to have Rahman on board,
Stewart says, “He brings so much musical knowledge, amazing musicianship, melody and singing power from a different culture.”

Despite their disparate backgrounds, they instantly connected and hit the ground running, writing twenty-two songs in the first six days. Stone was thrilled with the results, “That’s what you need, all these opinionated people who have been brilliant in their own field, shove them together and see what comes out. Thabal and Hari-B team up once again on a new project titled Akhiyaan. Akhiyaan, a completely different vibe from Aaja Billo, puts a new spin on the romantic genre and is bound to be their biggest track to date. The track showcases Jasbir’s strong vocals, Hari-B’s RnB/Urban music and lyrics of a fresh new writer Gupz Sehra (also known as Honey Sehra)!

Jasbir S. Thabal is from Northern California and first came onto the scene in 2006 when he joined the Bay Area Bhangra Empire as their singer. In 2009 he was recruited by Virse De Waris, a popular traditional bhangra team, to sing for them. During that time he took lessons from Ustad Sultan Akhtar, whom he impressed with his quick mastery of singing. He tells us he has been “strongly influenced by great artists like Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Harbhajan Maan, and Surjit Khan”.

Hari-B, is also from the SF Bay Area is a rising star whose reach is growing on an international level. From a young age, Bhangra has been a major influential part of Hari’s life. He was only 17 when started to recognize the production side of bhangra and has now evolved into producing/remixing and promoting. Hari-B cites “Dj H, Aman Hayer, Sukshinder Shinda, and Dr.Zeus” as his inspirations.

Look out for Hari-B’s professional debut with his first mainstream release which is a collaboration with Sukhdev Sukha and Sukwinder Panchii for two tracks featured on Kalikwest Connected Vol.1. Hari is also working hard on a exclusive single with DJ Gurps.

Sammy Gill is an up and coming singer/songwriter from Surrey, BC Canada. Growing up in a Family of truckers in India, he was inspired by artists such as Gurdas Mann, Kuldep Manak, Mohd Siddique and the late Chamkila. Sammy moved from India in his early teenage years swiftly learned the ways of the “Western” culture but still kept the Panjabi culture deep in his roots, which is demonstrated in his lyrics and vocals.

G Samra emerges after a two year break to drop a free new Drum & Bass remix of ‘Subtou Sanakhi’, which originally featured on the ‘Ready & Reloaded EP’ back in 2009. “I grew up with Drum & Bass and I still love my old school grimy beats. I did this remix just for myself but I played it for a few people who liked it so I’m putting it out there. Its not going to change the world but I hope that the old school heads will appreciate it.”

G Samra will be releasing a compilation album named ‘Reconsider This’ through Limitless Records this December 2011. A second album will follow in spring next year.

“I’ve been doing this for eight years and people always ask me why I haven’t released an album. The answer is simple. I chose to remain independent and I kept away from the “mainstream Bhangra” scene because I wanted to learn the craft and the business. Fame has never interested me and that mentality has kept me focused whilst building up my knowledge.

I have released several EPs and and they have all been stepping stones. Loving music is one thing but you need to understand music before you can create it without always relying on others. I wasn’t classically trained so I have had to learn everything from the ground up and I have learnt from some of the best out musicians and studio engineers out there.

I feel ready for the next step and I’m looking forward to working with Limitless on the forthcoming album and in the future. Those guys started out at the same time as me and I have seen them grow into an important label for scene. This deal just felt like the right move. Big up to Limitless Records and to all those people who have supported me over the years but I haven’t even started yet. That was just the warm up.”

In the history of Music, thousands of people have turned themselves into stars with their talent and hard work. Some people have amazing vocals, some are good song writers. A few are great composers and very few of them are music producers. However, only some people have the gift of singing, writing, composing and also producing at the same time; Bilal Saeed is one of them.

Born in Sialkot on 12 December 1988, he started singing, writing and composing songs when he was just at high school. The passion of music left his mind with only one option to do in life; ‘music’. After finishing his studies, he took the initiative and went to Islamabad to record his songs. In the meanwhile he availed the opportunity of writing and composing songs for upcoming singers as well as household Pakistani artists such as Amanat Ali, Huma Khawaja, Annie Khalid, Falak Shabir and many more. By the grace of God, he had some remarkable hits as lyricist and composer, not long after; fortune opened the doors for him to create his own recording studio known as Bee’s studio. Having his own studio gave him enough comfort to create music of his own. Bilal has signed to Envy Entertainment, who now proudly present his debut single ‘12 Saal’.

If you haven’t heard of Rasshee Rraga yet well get used to the name, this young, talented singer is ready to take over the music industry. With her cute looks, unforgettable curly hair and a voice like a Bollywood playback singer Rasshee is ready to present her second single ‘Dil Mangda’ produced my musical legend Aman Hayer.

Rasshee’s first single ‘’Yaad’’ which was also produced by Aman Hayer was a super hit across the UK which quickly led this young star to perform at some of the UK’s largest music events in 2010. Rasshee is the daughter of Pandit Kailash Pawar, the renowned Sitarist (Sitar player) in the field of Indian classical music and the Bollywood film industry and Raveena Jeet Kaur, (an Indian classical vocalist from ‘All India Radio, Delhi’).

Pandit Kailash Pawar was the son of Pandit Pusha Lal Pawar, who was the Sitar Guru of Maharaja Hanumant Singhji of Jodhpur, Rajasthan and his sister Baiji Lal. The majority of Sitar pieces you hear in Bollywood films from the period of 1953-1985 are played by Rasshee’s father. He was also the conductor of India’s national orchestra.

Rasshee hails from not only an amazingly talented musical family but has also represented London in Sa re ga ma pa 2008 where she was flown to Mumbai to take part in the international talent show.

Rasshee has also featured on many catchy tunes you may know from giving her voice to ‘Baba Veh’ with Bee2 and ‘Taare’ featuring Rasshee Rraga and Gurpreet Brar to name a few.

Jasjot Singh Ghuman brings us his debut E.P “The Yellow Brick Road” under the management of VIP Records. The video recently screened at Toronto’s Filmi Festival alongside Mani Amar’s Footsteps into Gangland. The Toronto viewers were amazed by the talent building in Vancouver. Local and international media was quick to interview A-slam and Mani given the outstanding audience reviews.

A-slam’s Back Down (Party Rock Remix) video will debut Monday October 17, accompanied with a free mp3 download. Harpal Singh aka Harpz G is from Wolverhampton, 22 years old, an upcoming DJ/Producer and Musician. He plays various instruments including the dhol, tabla, tumbi and keyboard. If you’re looking for a fresh vibe in Bhangra, Jasraj Music and FrontLine Media present the highly-anticipated first single from J Raj’s EP titled “Ambran Da Chan”. Phat drums and melodious electronic sounds fused with traditional Bhangra percussion and instrumentation is the modern-day pop approach to bhangra that J Raj has branded as his own. J Raj is a multi-talented artist and is the creative mind behind the Jasraj Music production team. Canadian hip-hop group A-SLAM have collaborated with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Gurdarshan ‘Gary’ Mangat for the release of A-SLAM’s debut music video entitled “Back Down”.

The fast-paced video features A-SLAM showcasing their music talents alongside Gary Mangat, the first Sikh featherweight to hold an MMA belt, showcasing his athletic talents. In addition to sharing a hometown of Vancouver, A-SLAM and Gary Mangat united for the “Back Down” music video under a common thread of pursuing one’s dreams. While A-SLAM is trying to break in to the music industry, Gary is on his own mission to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and to become the first Sikh UFC fighter in the process.

A-SLAM is a JUNO Nominated artist, DJ, and production team who specialize in “fusion Hip-Hop”, mixing the popular genre with South Asian, Latin, and Electronic influences. In addition to opening in Canada for some of the biggest names in urban and South Asian music including Jay Sean, Fat Joe, Apache Indian and Raghav, A-SLAM have toured Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and even performed for over 40,000 people at Ottawa’s 2011 Canada Day celebrations.

fter the amazing success of The PropheC’s debut album ‘Forever,’ which hit number one on the Canadian world music charts, The PropheC is sending out a special thank you to his fans with the release of a new, free track.

‘Zehar’ was originally released in a minute long snippet as part of Forever Fridays in July. Fans loved the track and have eagerly been awaiting a full version, which wasn’t included on ‘Forever.’

“In tone, it didn’t fit the album, but it was still one of my favourite tracks and I wanted to get it out there” The PropheC says. The song was one of over 40 songs The PropheC recorded for the album. It has since been updated with re-recorded vocals and a new beat.

After the amazing success of The PropheC’s debut album ‘Forever,’ which hit number one on the Canadian world music charts, The PropheC is sending out a special thank you to his fans with the release of a new, free track.

‘Zehar’ was originally released in a minute long snippet as part of Forever Fridays in July. Fans loved the track and have eagerly been awaiting a full version, which wasn’t included on ‘Forever.’

“In tone, it didn’t fit the album, but it was still one of my favourite tracks and I wanted to get it out there” The PropheC says. The song was one of over 40 songs The PropheC recorded for the album. It has since been updated with re-recorded vocals and a new beat.

Having received a great reception for his new release, Mukhtar Sahota releases the video for the title track of his album alongside Harbhajan Shera. Although, the lyrics and the composition on KSM may be traditional, but the production is fresh as ever! The chorus is taken from one of the folk Punjabi ‘Boliyan’, the rest of the lyrics were written by Bikram & Tigerstyle (Raj & Pops). A clean, traditional/urban video has been shot in California and should hit the TV stations as well as social media networks within the next few weeks. Since the huge succes of Jaaneman and Jaaneman Pt 2, Kee has been touring across the country, working in the studio with some amazing producers from across the globe and focusing on two new releases.

Kee’s is now getting ready to release her forthcoming single ‘Nai Nachna’ produced by the world famous music producer and DJ, Dj Dips. Dj Dips has been responsible for some of the biggest tracks in bhangra in the past few years with Gerra De De with Miss Pooja to most recently Tohar Ft Garry Sandhu.

Kee’s look, image and style of singing is totally different to any of her projects before. British Asian artists Raxstar, Arjun, Loven and Sunit all came down to show support with a small cameo appearance in the video.

Off the heels of amazing fan feedback from the recently released debut single “Livin It Up”! Luv Randhawa is thrilled to annouce the launch of the Official Music Video. Having been in the industry for years, Luv has surrounded himself with an all-star team. The lyrics for Livin It Up! were written by Johnny Josan, writer of ‘Shera Di Kaum’ from the new film Breakaway starring Russell Peters. Livin It Up! also features local stars Sanjay Seran of Delhi to Dublin fame, as welll as EV from A-Slam Music Productions. The track was produced by local music producer, Nick Chowlia.

“BIK I AM”, the third full length (LP) album from New York’s very own and internationally renowned Bhangra artist, Bikram Singh, is set to be released on November 24th, 2011.

Since the release of Singh’s first mixtape “Exclusives” in 2004, Bikram has released two highly acclaimed full length albums “American Jugni” (Vip Records/Universal Music India) and “Tip Top” (Vip Urban/Angel Records), toured the world, collaborated with mainstream artists including Das Racist, Bellringer, and Wyclef Jean. Bikram Singh’s music has also been featured in Hollywood films, TV shows and numerous music compilations. Once again, Bikram pens most of the songs on “BIK I AM” with assistance from Raj & Pops (Tigerstyle), a clear manifestation of collaborative effort in the creation of this new body of work.

Tigerstyle reengaged on “BIK I AM” as 9 of 14 tracks are produced by the Scottish music production Duo. Other producers on the album include Canada’s PropheC, New Jersey’s Ranbir S., London’s Mentor Beats, Twin Beats, and DDS (E-Camp Productions). Vocal collaborations include Premi Johal (O’ Tina O’ Tina), Bellringer, PropheC, Jyoti Gill, and a New York hip hop artist Pramanik.

“We have taken our time with this one”, explains Mr. Singh, “the lyrics are fresh, the production is outstanding, and it’s a fusion between the old and the new school.” Pops from Tigerstyle seemed to be very pleased in working with Mr. Singh, “Bikram and Tigerstyle have an amazing working relationship, we write and compose lyrics together and essentially it’s an amazing vibe in the studio.” The album is set to be released on Soldier Sound Recordings, in UK and Europe, Inar Records in America, and Sony BMG in India.
