World’s Best Bhangra Crew (WBBC) has one goal: give the bhangra circuit and the the audience what it wants. We strive to create an experience and an atmosphere that rivals a major sporting event. The WBBC board has hand picked 5 match-ups that represent not only the bhangra circuit today, but also the bhangra style of multiple cities and countries. 10 teams have been invited and the 5 match-ups between these 10 teams will be judged by an elite judging panel comprised of some of the most experienced and well respected judges. There will be 5 match-up winners and 1 overall winner. WBBC will take place on April 6, 2013 in Hackensack New Jersey. We hope to see you there.

With small beginnings at culture shows and exhibitions, we now strive to maintain a strong collegiate presence within North America’s competitive Bhangra circuit. Grounded in traditionality, grace, and energy, we aim to uphold the art of Bhangra amidst the ever evolving Bhangra scene. We strive to maintain and promote traditional folk Bhangra, whilst incorporating modern influences in order to deliver breath-taking and entertaining performances for all backgrounds to appreciate and enjoy.[/toggle] [toggle style=”closed” title=”Furteelay Shokeen“]Representing the Motor City, Furteelay Shokeen formed in the summer of 2009. The team began with a couple passionate gabroos wanting to dance and grew quickly within three and half years. Since its formation two years ago, the team has competed at eight competitions across North America and placed consistently at the last seven. In addition to competing, the team is active in the local Boston community and performs regularly at community shows, college events, weddings and banquet-hall events. Through ambition, commitment, and hard work, Bhangra Knightz have prided themselves in their true passion and love for Bhangra, and their work in spreading culture to the youth. We are the oldest collegiate bhangra team in the nation and thus we have been competing for almost 20 years. Throughout our history we have maintained our identity as a traditional team that focuses on unique ways of combining a folk flavor with an entertaining twist. We take pride in our rich history, hard work, and our willingness to push the known limits of traditional co-ed bhangra. The team we have carefully constructed has been through the rigors of thorough training and is ready to bring a renewed sense of folk tradition back into the world of bhangra.[/toggle] [toggle style=”closed” title=”Cornell University Bhangra“]Over the past 15 years Cornell Bhangra has become a permanent fixture on the competitive bhangra circuit. They are the longest continuously running team in North America and each year they host Pao Bhangra, the largest student-run show on Cornell’s campus as well as the largest bhangra exhibition in North America. The team has performed at events all over the continent such as Vancouver’s VIBC, Chicago’s PCS, Boston Bhangra, and many more. They strive to continue their legacy through their energy, excitement, and innovation.[/toggle] [toggle style=”closed” title=”D.C. Bhangra Crew“]D.C. Bhangra Crew (DCBC) is an all-female Bhangra dance team representing the D.C. Metropolitan area. DCBC consists of first and second-generation students and individuals who seek to further explore the rich and vibrant culture of Punjab through the lens of performing arts, and more specifically the dance form of Bhangra. We aim to be an example of equality within a circuit that is traditionally male-dominated.[/toggle] [toggle style=”closed” title=”Shaan Mutiyaaran Di Bhangra Club“]Shaan Mutiyaaran Di Bhangra Club is an all-female bhangra team based out of New York City. The team is a collaboration in the truest sense of the word: its dancers are alumni of collegiate teams from all over the country. The group’s dancers capitalize on the diversity of their backgrounds and nationalities, as well as their training in a multitude of bhangra styles to create a unique, yet cohesive take on the traditional folk dance. Coming together as one uniform unit on stage and off, SMD genuinely lives up to their name and acts in accordance with, not only representing, but being The Pride of Women.[/toggle]
