Song: Hare Hare
Album: Rhythm Shakers (2008)
Artist: Rhythm Shakers
Vocals: Pappi Gill
Label: Realtone Records
Before the days of hurrrs and drama queens, a three piece collective put out one of the best Punjabi albums of 2008. Despite good reviews and some radio play, the album didn’t really achieve a fraction of the success it deserved. But 2008 was a different world: iTunes was still in the process of re-inventing the way we bought and consumed music, the UK had yet to have an official Asian download chart and illegal downloading of this type of music was rife. A rumoured leaking of the album on the net pre-release further damaged its chances.
In years to come, Superjones, Bups Saggu and Sunny’s Rhythm Shakers project will probably be looked back on as one of the great lost British Asian albums, with “Hare Hare” its definite highlight. Along with the equally good “Mela”, it sounds as fresh today as the year it was released. The trio’s production manages to bring out the best in Pappi Gill’s faultless vocal and even its video, featuring three Nachda Sansaar dancers stealing the show, is pretty damn perfect.

I love the dance from 2:49 to 2:55. This is a serious track & vid, i’m tired of seeing these so called ‘MCs’ & ‘Rappers’, this is real bhangra representation, something which is missing in music today. Kudos guys and keep it up!
Aahhhhh I love the dance from 2:49 to 2:55! This is what i like, bhangra music vids actually showing the history and meaning of bhangra itself, not enough vids out there that show actual ‘bhangra dance’ I’m just bored of looking at so call ‘MCs’ & ‘Rappers’ faces! Good work man.
