We give you the lowdown of what went down and the latest news from both artists!
Chakdey.Com were given the chance to attend both the BBC Asian Network’s ‘In Conversation With‘ and ‘Queens of Melody’ events in November 2012, starring arguably two of Pakistan’s biggest female vocalists; the legend Shazia Manzoor and the newcomer Quratulain Balouch (QB). The Q&A session was hosted by the lovely DJ Noreen Khan in Forster Square, Bradford in an intimate and cosy theatre room.
To be sharing the room with one of our favourite vocalists was the obvious highlight of the night, Shazia Manzoor is not one to hold back every second was filled with great humour and amazing random singing sessions, bringing back to memory some of her most amazing tracks such as ‘Aaja Sohneya’, ‘Chan Mere Makhna’ and of course the recently released Ravi Bal hit ‘Sohniye Yaadan‘.
Answering a question put from the audience, Shazia Manzoor mentioned that just because she hasn’t been physically present in the UK people have seem to forgotten her existence. However she is still releasing hit tracks such as ‘Apni Bana Ley‘ & ‘Tu Badal Gaya‘ with Sukshinder Shinda and ‘Balle Balle‘, ‘Mitra‘ and ‘Chan Makhna‘ which have taken Pakistan by storm.
Shazia Manzoor has since announced that she is working with Sukshinder Shinda on Collaborations 3! No doubt she will be recording many tracks with UK producers so we can definitely hope to hear more from her soon! She also mentioned that she will be touring the UK once again in July/August 2013 with her label and managers.
Quratulain Balouch was no weak link either, with a crazy rendition of her track from ‘Woh Hamsafar‘ which bagged her Best Song and Best OST at the Lux Style Awards 2012. At just 24 years old QB has received the title of ‘Pakistan’s Youngest Achievement Award UK and Europe 2011’. The question on everyone’s lips is when Quratulain Balouch (QB) will be releasing her debut album.
We can exclusively reveal that she has released the first track on the album titled ‘Mera Ishq‘ (Click Here To View). However her belief is that a product should have quality rather than sticking something together quickly and releasing it. Her plans are to continue learning and getting trained classically, making sure she takes her time not to many any errors. She has set her sights on releasing an album within the next 2 years. Her next single/video release ‘Uss Paar’ will be via Black Box Sounds, watch out for the info coming direct to Chakdey.Com!
After the bitesize taster we were impatiently waiting for the Queens of Melody concert which followed a couple of days afterwards. The event showcased Shazia Manzoor and QB celebrating female legends such as Mussarat Nazir, Noor Jehan, Nazia Hassan and Reshma. The audience was truly mesmerised by their renditions of classics, as well as showcasing some of their own work.
You can catch full Highlights of the events via the BBC Red Button & BBC Asian Network this week!
