NGO seeks ban on Yo Yo Honey Singh’s songs

Written by

Yo Yo Honey Singh and controversies go hand in hand. The songs like ‘Manali Trance‘ and ‘Alcoholic‘ in the film ‘The Shaukheens‘ have sparked a new controversy. A Ludhiana based Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) Mahatar Sathi Jagriti Manch is seeking an immediate ban on both the songs composed by Singh.

The president of the NGO, Kimti Rawal, who was in the court for issuing his statement, said,

In Punjab, almost 70 per cent of the youngsters are the victims of drug abuse and if you have songs like these it will not help the efforts of the Government. The lyrics of the song instead promote the usage of drugs and alcohol.

Stating the extent of substance abuse in Punjab, Rawal further said,

10 boys between the age group of 16-25 years have succumbed to drug abuse and also there are a lot of rave parties which have been organised. All thanks to the songs like these which encourage the youngsters to consume drugs.

The complaint was filed on 5 December at the local court in Ludhiana against Singh, director Abhishek Singh, lead actor Akshay Kumar and others. “All I would like to state is that if Punjab can be affected to such an extent, then even rest of the country can. I have nothing against Honey Singh; I just want to tell the artistes to not make such songs.”
