Scotland’s biggest celebration of world music and dance returns for the annual Edinburgh Mela which runs from 29 – 31 August 2014.
In addition to local and international acts from all around the world, the mela will feature Asian ragga legend Apache Indian, the godfathers of UK Bhangra Alaap, Scotland’s own GTown Desi, SK1 performing his summer anthem “Ishq Da Rogh”, Sona Walia, 515 Crew, Canadian multi-talented artist PropheC, in addition to urban beats from Rameet and Tasha Tah.
You can also experience the blissful qawwali of Salim Sabri and witness one of the most celebrated Indian folk acts, Dhoad Gypsies from Rajasthan, with their fast-paced rhythms and fire-eating antics which have been stunning audiences around the world over the last few years. Italian dubmaster GAUDI, well-known on the Asian scene for releasing an album of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan dub remixes, joins Danny Ladwa for an epic live sound and light show, last performed at Egypt’s Pyramids of Giza. Classical music fans will be treated to the world premiere of The King of Ghosts, a musical piece fronted by acclaimed sarod player Soumik Datta and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
And of course, Scotland’s finest Tigerstyle will be presenting their Bhangra Extravaganza feat. Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin on the Mix Stage on the final day. Expect nothing less than one of the weekend’s highlights from the Tigerstyle duo!
