After a two year gap, Amritsar based singer Raj Ranjodh returns with his upcoming third album release titled ‘London’. Only a lot has happened since his last release… Raj is dropping the Ranjodh from his name and reverting back to his real name Raj Singh. “After writing the lyrics to one of the tracks on the new album, I asked myself what my real identity was? I decided to keep the identity that both my elders and culture have taught me alive, which is why I wanted ‘Singh’ back in my professional name“. The name may have indeed changed but the distinctive voice and trademark sound remain the same.[image src=”http://media2.chakdey.com/Images/RajSinghLondon.jpg” width=”400″ height=”400″ lightbox=”yes” align=”center”]
Trained in classical music from a young age, Raj secured an album deal with India’s oldest and most respected label SaReGaMa , releasing his debut ‘Virse De Waris’ in 2008 aged just 20. Forward two years to 2010 and the controversially titled “Hitler” track (and its accompanying album released through Goyal Music) gave him the biggest hit of his career in Punjab. Understandably, a backlash online outside of India over the title and misguided imagery in the video meant the album was unlikely to secure a UK or North American release as a result.
Taking the lessons and experience of the hit song and its aftermath and armed with his revised name – Raj Singh teams up once again with producer Pavneet Singh Birgi (who also produced his last album) for the his brand new release ‘London’. This is only Raj’s second release this year, after lending his vocals to Canadian producer Mandeep Dhaliwal’s “Kali” single earlier in the year.
9 of the tracks have been produced by Pavneet; while the remaining two feature DesiRoutz on production skills. The bulk of the album has been written by Raj himself. A couple of videos are currently in production in Calgary, Canada– with shooting for the title track London now complete and expected to be released soon.
London is out now via Finetone Music and is available worldwide on iTunes
